Raising Our Flag for A Bright Future
The Philippines has a long history
of being colonized, most notably by the Spaniards who first came to The Philippines on March 16, 1521. Led by Ferdinand Magellan on an expedition to
find the spice island and to circumnavigate the world. He influenced the
natives and converted them to Catholicism. Back then we saw our first hero
springing into action to ward off the Spaniards and upholding our culture. Datu
Lapu-Lapu of Mactan clashed with the forces of Magellan and his allies
resulting in Lapu-Lapu’s Victory. After some time the Spaniards came and
colonized our country naming it the Philippines after King Philip II of Spain. For more
than 3 centuries we have been abused, taken away from the land we call home, and
being at the bottom of society. We all have our heroes we owe our lives to
because they fought to grant us freedom, attaining our rights, and uplift
who we are as Filipinos. After the Spanish Regime we were made a commonwealth
of the United States, yet again when the Filipino-American war broke out. Many
Filipinos fought hard to gain the victory, even it was not ensured we were
given all the rights and freedom during the American Occupation, and up to this
day, we still share the same culture and becoming allies.
