Raising Our Flag for A Bright Future

For 333 long years, we Filipinos have been oppressed and colonized by the Spaniards. Setting their tyrannical way of ruling to hinder our rights and freedom. Many of our brave heroes fought for our freedom. Heroes like Andres Bonifacio, General Antonio Luna, Gregorio Del Pilar all fought on the frontlines. While our national hero, Jose Rizal proved that the pen is mightier than the sword, with his two novels showcasing the injustices and prejudice done to us Filipinos by the Spanish Colonizer. After all the blood-shedding, 123 years ago on the balcony in Kawit, Cavite, we proudly raised our flag and waged freedom from the Spaniards. A historical moment we all cherish and celebrate.

The Philippines has a long history of being colonized, most notably by the Spaniards who first came to The Philippines on March 16, 1521. Led by Ferdinand Magellan on an expedition to find the spice island and to circumnavigate the world. He influenced the natives and converted them to Catholicism. Back then we saw our first hero springing into action to ward off the Spaniards and upholding our culture. Datu Lapu-Lapu of Mactan clashed with the forces of Magellan and his allies resulting in Lapu-Lapu’s Victory. After some time the Spaniards came and colonized our country naming it the Philippines after King Philip II of Spain. For more than 3 centuries we have been abused, taken away from the land we call home, and being at the bottom of society. We all have our heroes we owe our lives to because they fought to grant us freedom, attaining our rights, and uplift who we are as Filipinos. After the Spanish Regime we were made a commonwealth of the United States, yet again when the Filipino-American war broke out. Many Filipinos fought hard to gain the victory, even it was not ensured we were given all the rights and freedom during the American Occupation, and up to this day, we still share the same culture and becoming allies.

Every 12TH of June with pride and joy, being patriotic on celebrating our independence day. Even though countries like Spain and the United States tried to colonize us. We Filipinos fought and stood our ground against those that try to rampart us and our motherland. We will remain victorious as long as we stand with our culture, traditions, and love for our country. For the future to come we Filipinos will always be ready to fight all injustices and ward off those that seek control over our blood.
